Welcome to Chez Nous a small intimate preschool in a lovely safe setting. Vicki the owner/ manager is hands on in the classroom. She tries to create a home from home atmosphere. She has many years teaching experience and has reared her own 3 girls who all went onto U.C.D. She personally welcomes and dismisses the children daily. Sharing parenting advice and guidance on the individual children and their needs and development.
Play is one of the essential experiences of childhood. Children are given the freedom to explore the environment and the equipment and learn to develop and grow together. Communication and role play are encouraged.
Montessori methods and the national preschool curriculum, Aistear and Siolta, are followed to create a vibrant and encouraging learning environment. We use the Buntas Physical exercise programme indoors and outdoors.
There is a strong emphasis on the children learning to do for themselves (put on coat, open/close lunch box). Life skills that will stand to them on entering “Big” school far more than knowing their numbers and letters. All children recognise numbers/letters in their own time. The teaching method is all about building on the positives in the child not negatives.
We incorporate singing and dancing, we introduce the children to ball sports. We introduce the children to Irish, Spanish & French and other languages with parents help at a basic level. (numbers, colours, greetings & songs). We make soup, the children peel the vegetables. We make apple pies and crumble from the apples the children collect in the garden. We plant spring and autumn bulbs.
We have monthly themes appropriate to the season (life cycles, animals and their babies). Ciricle time and art and craft are based on the themes and displayed on the walls. As well as festivals such as Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Valentine’s Day.
